Nick Bydal Named Head Coach and General Manager of Spirit

The College Station Spirit are excited to announce that Nick Bydal has been named the first Head Coach and General Manager in team history. Bydal is a native of East Grand Forks, Minnesota and has served as an Assistant Coach of the Minnesota Magicians of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the past two seasons.

Bydal began coaching in his hometown of East Grand Forks, MN following his playing career. He coached in the East Grand Forks youth program for 2 years while also serving a dual role as the Assistant Coach with East Grand Forks High School, helping them advance to the Minnesota State High School Tournament. Nick then moved to Crookston, MN to coach the High School team for a year before joining the Minnesota Magicians in 2014. While with the Magicians Nick was an Assistant Coach, Scout, as well as Strength and Conditioning Coach. Over his 5 years of coaching Nick has helped players move on to the USHL, NAHL, BCHL, MJHL, SJHL, NCAA Div. I, and NCAA Div. III.

Prior to coaching Nick Played for East Grand Forks High School where he made 2 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Tournament appearances. After High School, Nick played 3 years for the Bismarck Bobcats (AWHL/NAHL) where he played in the NAHL Robertson Cup Championship in three consecutive years. Nick continued after his junior Hockey career collegiately at UW-Stevens Point where he earned Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. After college, Nick played 2 years of Minor Professional Hockey before returning to school to pursue a degree in Education.
